Scenic Cities Beautiful Commission is a joint city county agency chartered in 1962. It was the key organization in initiating the first downtown tree planting in 1966. In 1977 Scenic Cities was the first organization in the state of Tennessee to become an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation chose Scenic Cities as the 1999 TN Local Government Environmental Stewardship Award recipient. This honor joined the many other local, regional and national awards Scenic Cities has earned over the years. Working in partnership with other agencies, non profits, government officials, businesses and individuals has assured that Scenic Cities projects remain strong.
